Allow me to formally introduce us. I am April--I have a background in Education and Travel. He is Scott--his background is Business and Commercial Finance. We are proud Prairie folk who bleed green and believe you are only as good as your word. Our Saskatchewan-ness shows in Scott's awe of eagles and my fascination with all things slug related. We grew up calling hoodies "bunny hugs", consider -25 to be "a nice winter day", and still think this time change nonsense is for the birds!
Like many Canadians nearing retirement age, we heard the British Columbian siren song. What started out as a vacation turned into a full-on relocation, sparking a boating addiction, resulting in numerous visits to Pender Island and me repeatedly saying "I want to live up there someday!" as we cruised by the many varied houses nestled high up on the rock. An email inquiry sent on a whim to Pender Island Chamber of Commerce coupled with our need to feed our boating addiction (BOAT stands for Bring On Another Thousand, for you wise non-boaters out there) and here we are.
Now, I know what you're thinking. How do two people with zero baking background make it work as bakers? That's simple. We know business. We know customer service. And we know great food when we taste it. That's the golden trilogy and is the foundation of the VL Bakery brand. Combine that with hard work and relentless determination (we will talk about the perils of taking possession of a business during the COVID lockdown another day), a definitive vision, lots of research and YouTube videos, the willingness to jump in with reckless abandon and learn from our mistakes, and the result is a strong basis for our business to thrive and grow.
We have a great product. We have a great team. We have a continual desire to improve.
2023 will see a lot of positivity and growth at VL Bakery. We cannot wait to see what the future holds!
